The short answer
A specialist pool table mover in New York City charges $350–$700 to move a standard 8-foot three-piece slate table within the same borough. That price includes disassembly, moving the slate in three pieces, reassembly, and leveling. It does not usually include new cloth.
What changes the price
| Factor | Typical add-on |
|---|---|
| Stairs above the 3rd floor (no elevator) | $100–$200 |
| 9-foot or antique table | $100–$250 |
| Between boroughs | $100–$200 |
| Long carry from the truck (no loading zone) | $50–$150 |
| New cloth installed during the move | $250–$450 (materials + labor) |
| Certificate of insurance for your building | Usually free; ask ahead |
Why you should not use general movers
A three-piece slate table has three stone slabs, each 150–250 lb, bolted to a frame and glued to the cloth. Moving it assembled twists the frame and cracks slate at the seams. General movers will do it if you ask; the repair afterward costs more than hiring the right people.
What a good mover does
- Removes rails, pockets, and cloth
- Lifts each slate piece separately and moves it flat
- Reassembles, fills the slate seams, and levels with a machinist's level
- Installs cloth (existing cloth rarely survives a move cleanly — budget for new)
